Unhealth Fact #19: Muscle is Wasted Weight

If you are forced to start an exercise regime, you may notice that the inches disappear and your clothes fit more loosely but your weight stays the same. Do not be fooled by the scale. You are losing fat and gaining muscle.

Muscle is much denser than fat. One pound of fat will take up about 4 times the amount of space as one pound of muscle. This is very dangerous to your unfit goals. There are many healthy problems associated with increased muscle mass. First, muscle is expensive calorically for your body to maintain. This means that the food you eat will go towards maintaining your muscle instead of to your building up your fat stores. Second having more muscles makes it easier for you to move in general. You might be tempted to go for a walk or even take the stairs because the stronger you get the easier it is to exercise more.

If you are for some reason exercising, make sure you eat more than usual afterward to account for any calories lost during exercise and for any muscle you may gain.
