Thanksgiving Countdown: Baked Macaroni & Cheese with Bourbon Candied Bacon and Cheeto Crumbs

This Thanksgiving treat your family with this recipe for Baked Macaroni & Cheese with Candied Bacon and Cheeto Crumbs. This is an H2GF original.

  • 1lb of macaroni noodles
  • 1 whole egg
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 2 cups of grated cheddar cheese
  • 1 cups of grated jack cheese
  • 1/2 cup of butter (1 stick)
  • 1/4 cup of flour
  • 10 slices of bacon
  • 1/4 cup of Cheeto crumbs
  • 1/2 cup of bourbon whiskey
  • 1 cup of brown sugar

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees and bring the bourbon to a boil in a small saucepan. Let it simmer until it’s reduced to about 2 tablespoons. Remove from heat and dip each slice of bacon in the whiskey then coat each with brown sugar. Lay the bacon on a greased baking sheet and place in the oven. After 7 minutes, flip each slice of bacon and bake for another 5 minutes. Remove from oven and chop into small pieces.

Reduce oven to 375 degrees. In a large pot of salted water boil the macaroni noodles. In a saucepan mix the egg, milk, both cheeses, butter, and flour and heat until boiling. In a baking dish, stir the bacon and cheese mixture in with the noodles. Sprinkle the Cheeto crumbs on top and place in the oven for 25 minutes.
