Unhealth Fact #10: Don’t Sleep

I know it sounds counterintuitive to sleep less if you want to get fat but allow me to explain. If all you ever did was eat and sleep you certainly would gain a tremendous amount of weight, however most of us have jobs and lives that force us to get out of bed every day.

Sleep is important for your body to recover and feel good during the day.

Let’s say you normally get 8 hours of sleep in a night and we cut it down to 6. You will feel tired during the day. Sluggish. Throughout the day you will move less and want to sit more. Your metabolism will be slowed so you will burn less calories just by being alive. Cooking dinner will take too much energy; picking up some fast food will sound incredibly desirable. Lastly, since you are soooo tired there will be no way for you to possibly go to the gym.

Now let’s do this every night. Stay up and watch just one more episode of Top Chef. Surf the internet for pictures of cats for another hour. Read one more article about about how aliens live among us.

Just don’t fall to sleep at a reasonable hour.
